About TrackStudio.
TrackStudio is an independent Mac app for people who want the trackpad to feel like a tool, not a pointer. It treats the whole surface as a place you can arrange: edges, corners, areas, center gestures, per-app scenes, and haptics.
TrackStudio is a Mac trackpad control surface. It is not n-Track Studio, Track Studio audio software, or an audio workstation.
Why it exists
The Mac trackpad is the best input device on a laptop. It is precise, quiet, and always there. But most software treats it as a rectangle for moving a cursor. The interesting parts — the edge you can reach without looking, the corner you can hit with your thumb, the difference between a tap and a press — are left to the system.
TrackStudio started with a simple question: what if the trackpad had a layout? Not a list of triggers. A surface you can see, with regions that mean something in the app in front of you.
Design principles
- Surface over lists. You should see the edge, corner, or area you are editing, not hunt for it in a settings tree.
- Scenes over global layouts. Figma, Final Cut Pro, VS Code, and Safari do different work. The trackpad should follow the app.
- Haptics are information. A detent tells you a value changed. A tick tells you an action ran. A texture tells you that you are scrubbing. If a haptic does not tell you something, it should not be there.
- Local first. No account. No cloud profile. No analytics from the app. Your layout stays on your Mac.
- One price. No subscription. The app should be bought once and kept.
How we write
The journal is part of the product. It compares apps honestly, links the vendor pages, dates the prices, and names the cases where another app is the better buy. We make TrackStudio, so every commercial page says so above the fold. We do not invent ratings, user counts, or test results. If a claim cannot be checked, it does not go in the article. Read the editorial standards for the full method.
Who makes it
TrackStudio is made by a small independent team. The app, the site, and the journal are written by the same people who use the app. There is no agency, no growth team, and no support queue hidden behind a chatbot.
If you want to reach the person who makes it, email hello@trackstudio.xyz. Bug reports, workflow questions, and corrections are welcome. For press, use the press kit.
What we are working on
Better onboarding, clearer diagnostics, more per-app recipes, and a comparison library that helps people choose the right trackpad app even when it is not ours. The roadmap is driven by support emails and the workflows people describe, not by a feature checklist.
